Choosing the Right Pillow for Proper Back Support

Choosing the Right Pillow for Proper Back Support

Do you ever suffer from back or neck pains? Insomnia? Do you often have migraines or headaches? Your pillow might be the one to blame. A wrong spinal position during sleep can lead to various health problems and generally a bad health condition or even mood. Learn how to use pillows correctly to support your back and neck under most circumstances and get rid of those annoying pains once and for all.

Let’s take a look at what your spine actually is. A Spine is a column of bones in our body that consists of a series of articulated vertebrae, separated by inter-vertebral disks. Muscles and tendons help to hold the spinal bones together. The spinal column extends from the cranium to the coccyx and it is our basic supportive structure, the one that keeps us on our feet. Good support and posture are important for our spines general condition. So, when we stand, sit or lie down, gravity exerts a force on our joints, ligaments and muscles. We have to make to make sure that this force is distributed evenly so that our structures are not overstressed.

How can we use a pillow to support our back while in a seated position? This position is the most troublesome one. As we are focused in our activity in front of us we tend to protrude the head forward. As a result, the thoracic and lumbar spine tends to round forward. That leads to weight imbalance and our muscles and spinal ligaments have to stretch in order to support our upper body’s weight. The result is headaches and pains in the neck and the upper back. Placing a small pillow in the arch of the lower back can restore the ideal position for the spine, the S-shaped curvature.

A lumbar support pillow that fills the natural gap created between the lower spine and the chair is ideal. Use lumbar support pillows also while sitting in a car. Besides back support it will absorb the forces of gravity that may hurt your spine. While traveling, you can also use special travel pillows designed in a U-shape. These pillows are curved to fit around the neck. They support the head when in a seated position, relieving neck muscles. It is very beneficial, especially if you need to sleep in a seated position. Donut pillows, the ones with the hole in the middle, are suggested if you are suffering from coccyx pain because the hole takes pressure off the coccyx region or if you are woman in pregnancy, as it helps absorb gravitational forces.

You also need a pillow to support your back while in a lying position. Don’t hesitate to try different types of pillows and keep the one that suits you best. restful sleep, choose cervical (orthopedic) pillows, which are contoured to fill the spaces under the head and neck, for maximum neck support. Also use a mattress top or knee pillow between the knees if you are sleeping on the side, or below the knees if you are sleeping on the back, which can help alleviate strain on the lower back. Body pillows are also designed to provide overall neck and knee support and cover the supportive needs of the whole body.

If you suffer from a health problem that involves the spine, consult your Orthopedic Doctor and decide together which type of pillow is best suited for your condition. A good pillow is also necessary for those who would like to avoid those types of problems in the future. So, do your research and buy a present for your back, after all, who can support you more efficiently?

Keeping our hearts healthy is important, but how do we do it? Fortunately the answers to this are very clear

Keeping our hearts healthy is important, but how do we do it? Fortunately the answers to this are very clear

Keeping our hearts healthy is important, but how do we do it? Fortunately the answers to this are very clear.

Being overweight, particularly if you carry the weight around your waist, puts unnecessary strain on the heart. To find out if you have a problem you need to know your height to weight ratio (WHR). To work this out measure round your waist in centimetres and divide it by your hip circumference. The measurements need to be in centimetres, so if your measuring tape is in inches, multiply each measurement by 2.5 before dividing one by the other. If the figure you end up with is greater than 0.9 for men and 0.8 for women then your fat distribution is likely to be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Research has shown that many overweight people with angina, raised blood cholesterol and high blood pressure found their condition improved greatly, even after losing only some of their excess weight. Many of those who kept their weight off were able to reduce their medication or even stop it entirely.

Exercise is important for your heart too. If you take regular exercise, it will speed up your basal metabolic rate. This means that you will burn more calories, not only when you are exercising but for some time afterwards as well. People often imagine that they have to exercise hard to have an effect, but it’s enough just to take exercise that leaves you warm and breathing heavily, but still able to hold a conversation.

Did you know that each day most of us take between 3,000-4,000 steps? And that's just not enough. Experts say that we should aim to take 10,000 steps to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Increasing to 10,000 steps a day will burn between 2,000 and 3,500 extra calories per week, which will result in achieving a vastly better health profile and longer lifespan. There are lots of ways you can increase the number of steps you take: get up to change the TV rather than using the remote; park further from the supermarket; take a walk around the local park or your garden/yard; walk rather than take the car on short journeys. Using a pedometer will help motivate you to clock up those extra steps.

Giving up smoking is likely to have a dramatic effect on your heart. Carbon monoxide produced when you smoke cigarettes attaches to red blood cells, so that in smokers up to half the blood can be carrying carbon monoxide rather than oxygen. No wonder many smokers are breathless! If you need help giving up smoking, try one of the books or CD’s by Allen Carr. He has helped thousands of people to give up.

And, if you don’t already, start flossing your teeth! This may seem bizarre in relation to the heart, but it has been shown that there is a link between gum disease and heart disease. The exact mechanism isn’t understood fully yet, but flossing your teeth and having regular dental checks is important for a healthy heart.

Finally, give and receive love. The scientific evidence isn’t there (yet) for how important this is for our hearts, but it has been established that people who have loving relationships also tend to have long and happy lives.

It's great news that research found a food that lowers blood pressure and is healthy for the heart and maybe more

Dark chocolate

It's great news that research found a food that lowers blood pressure and is healthy for the heart and maybe more. The problem is that the chocolate most Americans consume is not the same kind. The more popular kinds of chocolate have little or no positive effect on your health. Only certain chocolate may be healthy.

Dark chocolate is the chocolate that was found to have positive effects on blood pressure. Participants given dark, milk, or white chocolate every day were evaluated in different studies. It turns out that dark chocolate contains important antioxidants called phenols. These natural compounds from the cocoa bean are known to increase nitric oxide, reduce platelet aggregation, and inhibit oxidation of LDL cholesterol. Cocoa can decrease blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, and increase your insulin sensitivity. Milk and white chocolate are low in these antioxidants and do not have the same effect.

The problem is how chocolate is processed in this country. White chocolate, regardless of where you get it, actually contains no cocoa at all and is made only from cocoa butter; just the fat from the cocoa beans. It also contains no phenols. Most of the other chocolate we eat is made with "dutched" cocoa. The cocoa beans are treated with an alkaline solution to make them dark in color and to reduce the natural bitterness from the plant. But, it also reduces almost 90% of the phenols and most of its healthy benefits. The other problem is that when made into milk chocolate, the milk seems to prevent the phenols from being absorbed and, thus, negating any possible benefit from the chocolate.

The best chocolate for your health appears to be dark chocolate. In the European studies done, they ate 100gm of chocolate a day (100 grams equals approx. 3.5 ounces). That's the equivalent to 2 1/2 regular size Hershey's bars. It also adds about 550 calories to the diet. They were instructed to substitute this amount of calories from other foods they normally ate each day. You would have to do the same or forego its healthy benefits by increasing your waistline. European chocolate in general is healthier than that found in America due to the fact that it is less processed than ours and contains more of the heart healthy antioxidants. Dark chocolate is an acquired taste for most Americans since it is much more bitter than its milky counterpart.

So why is this research being touted as the 'best medical news in ages'? It appears to be one more way we look to justify the unhealthy diets we follow. When people hear that chocolate is now healthy, they don't hear any of the other restrictions involved, and don't want to. In fact, most people wouldn't want to change to a more bitter tasting chocolate and also cut out over 500 calories from their diets. Our diets already have enough sweets and this type of news only fuels the diabetic and obesity epidemics. This kind of medical news will only make most people add extra calories to their diets and increase their health problems.

The use of antibiotics in most dental treatment has now become a more limited and selective process

The use of antibiotics in most dental treatment has now become a more limited and selective process

Although these antibiotics can help fight the bacteria associated with most dental infections, they are rarely used as the primary therapy alone.

The use of antibiotics has been a routine part of dental treatment for decades. The antibiotics seattle dentists most often prescribe include Penicillin, Erythromycin, Clindamycin, Tetracycline or their derivatives. Although these antibiotics can help fight the bacteria associated with most dental infections, they are rarely used as the primary therapy alone. To the contrary, most dental infections are treated surgically, with antibiotics used in an occasional, supplemental role. For instance, an infected tooth is often treated by the removal of its nerves and tiny blood vessels (root canal) or by having the tooth removed. An infection of the gum is treated by using a small, thin curette and removing the bacterial build-up (plaque and tartar), or by removal of the infected gum and other surrounding tissue.

So when should your seattle dentist prescribe antibiotics? To answer that question, let me begin with what many dentists have done in the past. In most cases, antibiotics were routinely given after root canal treatment, surgical dental extractions, and after gum surgery. Today, I almost never prescribe antibiotics for these procedures. The reason is that experience and research have shown that in the majority of cases, antibiotics are not necessary. I would also add that the use of antibiotics should not be taken lightly. The emergence of drug resistant bacteria, side effects, and potentially dangerous allergic reactions are all reasons for dentists to be very prudent in the administration of antibiotics.

Despite the potential risks associated with their use, there are legitimate reasons for the use of antibiotics in dentistry. Antibiotics are often used to treat persistent or advanced dental infections that do not respond to routine treatment alone. They are also used after complex gum or implant surgeries, especially those that use grafts, or when treating dental infections for those that have diseases or take medications that suppress the immune system. Antibiotics should also be taken prior to dental treatment for patients who are considered at high risk for developing subacute bacterial endocarditis (SBE), a dangerous heart infection. People at risk are those with artificial heart valves, have had SBE in the past, have congenital (occurring at birth) heart defects, have damaged heart valves from diseases such as rheumatic heart disease, and those who have certain heart murmurs. In some cases, antibiotics can be given several days before treatment including root canal or having a tooth removed to reduce the severity of the infection, allowing treatment to proceed more easily.

The decision whether to use antibiotics is at the discretion of your seattle dentist. Every individual situation is different, and will not necessarily fall neatly into the categories that I have described. Even so, the use of antibiotics in most dental treatment has now become a more limited and selective process.

There are a number of approaches a person can use when they are ready to stop smoking

Stop Smoking

No matter what the reason was when a person began to smoke, the health risks proven to be caused by smoking has many smokers doing whatever they can to stop smoking. In order to stop smoking, a person needs to stop using all types of smoking tobacco products, which isn’t as easy as it sounds. Smoking tobacco contains a substance called nicotine, which is an alkaloid poison that occurs in tobacco. Nicotine is highly addictive, which is the reason why most people are not able to stop smoking with some kind of help.

There are a number of approaches a person can use when they are ready to stop smoking including the help of doctors and medicine. Most people have probably seen advertisements for a variety of products geared toward helping people to stop smoking. It is universally agreed upon that smoking is not safe or healthy for the smoker and those around that person and smokers who value their health and the health of their loved ones should stop smoking. In fact, smokers who have successfully stopped smoking report that they feel much healthier, have extra cash that isn’t being spent on tobacco products and they know that they have significantly decreased their risks of developing a tobacco-related disease.

One of the most effective means in which a person can try to stop smoking is to have a strong support network, group or even a cognitive behavioral therapist help them along the way. If a person chooses to see their doctor for help to stop smoking, their doctor is likely to offer that person medication in addition to advising the person to find support to stop using tobacco. Any person who decides to use medication from their doctor should be aware that some of the options available for help to stop smoking are addictive by themselves and could lead to other problems.

To begin searching for the best way to stop smoking, it is a good idea to see a doctor and ask about quitting and the help that is available. There are a number of techniques available including nicotine gum, self-help books and going ‘cold turkey’ as well as alternative methods including hypnosis, acupuncture, nutritional nicotine detoxification and other paths.

One of the key factors that plays a very important role in how successful a person can be in their efforts to stop smoking is how committed the are to seriously quit their bad habit and to stay on that path. One cigarette here or there can truly undo any good that has already been done. One of the major benefits provided by support systems for people who are trying to quit is to offer ideas on what to do when the urge to smoke becomes overwhelming due to stress or other triggering situations. Not all smokers will succeed in their attempt to stop smoking their first time and should be aware that they are not alone. It takes most smokers several tries before finding the right path and strength in order to stop smoking successfully.

It is also important not to squeeze the pimples that form

It is also important not to squeeze the pimples that form

Acne is a non-lethal but very uncomfortable skin condition that mainly effects people aged between 12 and 24 but which can effect adults also. It is the most common skin affliction in the United States, it has strong psychological effects as it is highly visible and can cause permanent scarring.

Acne is most common among teenagers. It is caused when excess oil on the skin (which is ordinarily absorbed or let out of the pores) clogs the pores causing sores which are often called pimples, zits or spots. Teenagers often suffer from hormonal imbalance in the oil producing glands during puberty, this can cause too much oil to be produced leading to acne.

Unfortunately acne is most likely to occur on the face, where is very visible and often embarassing. However it also occurs on the neck, back, chest and shoulders.

It is not clear what combination of factors play role in developing acne and why some people never have it, while others seem "subscribed" to it. The main reason for acne is the increase in androgens (male sex hormones), which occurs naturally in both boys and girls during puberty. Pregnancy and contraception pills also affect hormones and can cause acne.

Hormones are not the only factor present in acne formation

Surpisingly, while not really inheritable, acne can be traced along hereditary lines. So a family history of acne can raise the chance of young people in that family contracting it at some point in their puberty. One good measure you can take to prevent acne is to ensure you keep clean. Uncleanliness can be a factor in acne development (although by no means is it the only factor). Humidity and pollution can lead to acne also by blocking pores.

On the other hand, there are many popular myths and delusions about what causes acne. Acne does not occur as a result of stress, or of eating chocolate and greasy food.
Also, acne is not an infectious disease, i.e. it cannot be transmitted by touch or through a sexual intercourse (like Chlamydia ~ which is also a skin disease but is transmitted sexually).

There is no real way to prevent acne -- if it's going to form, it will. Generally all one can do is take steps to stem its development. A visit to a dermatologist is crucial, they can prescribe a solution (which may or may not involve medication).

There are a few rules for coping with acne, firstly it is crucial to keep your face and indeed any areas afflicted by acne clean. It is also important not to squeeze the pimples that form. It may seem like this removes them, but it does not remove the cause of the acne and in fact it leaves the lesions open to infection.

As already mentioned, hygiene is very important for keeping acne under control. When skin is dirty, this places an additional burden on the pores, thus making oil secretion even more difficult. Therefore, it is recommended always to use clean towels (preferably paper ones, since they cannot have been used by somebody else before you) to wipe one~s face. Also, often change your pillowcase, because it is another item that frequently comes into contact with the face.

Using specially designed cleaning lotions can help to remove oil, sweat and acne-producing bacteria from the face, just take care not to scrub your face too hard as this can irritate any pimples on your face and make the acne worse.

Do you know anyone like my uncle?

Do you know anyone like my uncle?

Do you know anyone like my uncle? You know, the kind that searches for the salt shaker before even sitting at the table? The types who never seems to find anything tasty enough on its lonesome, so they cover everything, from steak to bread, with an extra pound of salt? Your look at them with astonishment and possible nausea, and wonder how it is that they have yet to fall over from a heart attack. Their poor bodies ache for salvation, and water, and while their capacity to discern between thirst and hunger diminishes, their bodies, and waistline, begin to suffer.

Could You Pass The Salt?

Average table salt contains 98% sodium, with the remaining 2% comprised of the chemicals that are left behind from the process. 85% of sea salt is comprised of sodium while the other 15% is minerals. Problem is, that until I did the research I had no idea how important sea salt is for health, and how unhealthy processed salt really is. Aside from severe dehydration, and possibly kidney failure caused from stress and too little water, a processed salt overload can lead to an imbalance in the body that can then lead to more serious health implications. I know, more serious than kidney failure? Maybe not more serious, but equally as damaging.

Insomnia, low blood pressure, weak pulse, thick blood, reduced blood volume, lethargy, impaired water excretion, pulmonary hyper-tension, mental confusion, anxiety, depression, hostility, apathy, memory loss, inability to concentrate, withdrawal, immune deficiency, high cholesterol, intracellular swelling, tachycardia, muscle pain, allergies, chemical sensitivity, hair loss, tooth decay, de-vascularization and necrosis. Over a long enough period of time, the body begins to die from malnutrition and low blood-pressure. Salt also robs the body of its electrolytes, which are needed to help in keeping the kidneys healthy and happy.

Salt is probably one of the most basic and staple foods of the human diet. The reason that table salt has negative effects on the body is because it is a man-made product comprised of only sodium and chloride. These two elements have their purpose, but in large quantities, they can be very dangerous to the body.

These frequencies can destroy and stress your energetic body as well

These frequencies can destroy and stress your energetic body as well

What is the nature of life? This is a long-pondered question and the debate rages on between promoters of a particulate or an energy-filled universe. What do you think? Does it matter?

In reality it does matter. Because if we understand that we live in an energetic universe, we can avail ourselves of foods and technology used to create an optimal environment so that destructive things you may encounter in your every day physical reality can be rendered harmless to your energetic electrical body.

What in the world did we just say? Translation:

Our environment is such that we perceive everything as being physical. Though in actuality, everything is affected by the non-physical, because, in fact, that is all there is. We, therefore, have to decide how to enhance the quality of our lives in this third dimensional world using all the tools that are available.

This must begin with an accurate understanding of this energetic place we call reality (or life). When you come to that understanding you then use various types of non-physical tools that can create healthier and safer environments and foods.

Man-Made Energy Fields

We are constantly stressed by conditions that are man made. For example, ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) is a carrier frequency used for military communications, which transmit information on long sine waves.

Sine waves can penetrate right through your physical body. And, because your physical body isn't really physical, it is assaulted severely by these conflicting energy fields. The stress the sine waves produce, weakens immune function.

Then, there’s EMF (Electro Magnetic Fields) that are generated by anything electrical that is plugged into the wall. It is also found in high-tension wires near and over your house, frequencies coming off of satellites, radio emissions or television
stations.

These frequencies can destroy and stress your energetic body as well. Then, there are microwave and cell towers on top of almost every hill in almost every community. These towers are broadcasting data via microwaves, which also travel into your body, creating significant discord. These waves create chaos in your energy field, which translates to all manner of discomfort, discontent and disease. Just because you look into the mirror and do not see the effects immediately, an effect is occurring.

Zero Point Energy Field

When the body becomes overwhelmed, and your system begins to fail, your immune function ceases to perform. It is now compromised, leaving you wide open to adverse effects such as bacterial fungus, viral infection or even worse, degenerative conditions like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and so on.

This negativity comes from a lot of different sources, but not just the invisible ones like electro-magnetic fields. Some things that impair you in an adverse way are very visible, things such as a fast food, french fries and a soft drink. When you ingest greasy, lifeless fast- foods, your system is thrown into the same kind of energetic disarray.

Learn how to keep these health-destroying energy fields under control and access some valuable tools to create an optimal environment and to revise destructive things you may encounter. Also learn about controlling Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD, ADHD) using these same natural means.

Acne, If you are an acne sufferer, then I trust this information will be very helpful to you

Acne. Do you have acne ? Acne maybe the scourge of adolescent years, but it can follow people into middle age and beyond.

Acne is really a catchall term for a variety of symptoms such as pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. It's a condition where the pores of skin become clogged and the person gets inflamed and non-inflamed lesions.

So what's the cause of all the clogging ?......

Heredity - at least for the most part. Acne is genetic - it tends to run in families, it is an inherited defect of your pores. If both your parents had acne, three out of four of your brothers and sisters will get it too.

Factors that can aggravate an acne outbreak are :

Stress, sun exposure, seasonal changes, and climate can all precipitate an acne attack. Certain types of makeup and taking birth control pills can also cause a breakout.

Change Your Make-up

In adult women, make-up is the major factor in acne outbreaks, especially oil based products. It's the oil that causes the problem. The oil is usually a derivative of fatty acids that are more potent than your own fatty acids. Use a non-oil-based make-up if you are prone to acne.

Read The labels.

Cosmetic products that contain lanolins, isopropyl myristate, sodium lauryl sulphate, laureth-4 and D & C red dyes should be avoided. Like oil, these ingredients are too rich for the skin.

Wash Properly.

Wash your make-up off thoroughly every night. Use a mild soap twice a day and make sure you rinse the soap entirely off your face. Rinse six or seven times with fresh water.

Use Less Make-up.

Whatever make-up you use, try to cut down on the amount you put on.

Leave Well Alone.

Don't squeeze pimples or whiteheads. A pimple is an inflammation, and you could add to the inflammation by squeezing it, which could lead to an infection. A pimple will always go away in one to four weeks if you leave them alone.

Know When To Squeeze.

Most pimples are best left alone, but there is one kind that you can squeeze to help get rid of it. If the pimple has a little central yellow pus head in it, then a gentle squeeze will make it pop open very nicely. Once the pus pops out, the pimple will heal more quickly.

Attack Blackheads.

You can also get rid of blackheads by squeezing them. A blackhead is a very blocked pore, and a gentle squeeze will help rectifty this.

Give Dry Skin Extra Care.

Dry skin can be sensitive to some over the counter skin treatments, so please use these treatments with care. Start with the lower strength products first, and then increase the concentration slowly.

Stay Out Of The Sun.

Acne medications may cause adverse reactions to the sun, so minimize you exposure until you know what the reactions going to be.

Use One Treatment At A Time.

Don't mix treatments, use only one at a time because they may cause an adverse reaction if mixed together.

Stop The Spread Of Acne.

Apply acne medication about half an inch around the affected area, to help keep the acne from spreading. Acne moves across the face from the nose to the ear, so you need to treat beyond the inflamed area. Most people make the mistake of treating only the pimples and not the outlaying areas of skin. This is wrong.

If you are an acne sufferer, then I trust this information will be very helpful to you.

Workouts over the incline treadmill all the time can generate negative effects on ankles and tendons

Workouts over the incline treadmill all the time can generate negative effects on ankles and tendons

Incline treadmill is suitable for wide range of therapies and workouts. Incline treadmill provides a more challenging way to increase the workload in terms of distance without going faster. Incline treadmill simulates an uphill climb, while the electronics can be programmed to create running or walking. Incline treadmill strengthens muscles and burns calories allowing the user to lose more weight.

The greater the incline angle on the treadmill the more muscle activity, greater body motion and more exertion. This is the principle of the incline treadmill which brings in fat loss, good body sculpting results and loss of calories results. People desire to achieve these as to maintain healthy bodies that look great.

The more the incline on the treadmill, the greater the calories will be burned on the treadmill simply because walking at an incline on the treadmill causes more muscle activity and greater range of motion. Incline treadmill engages the lower body muscle group, forces people to incline at each step, exert themselves and significantly burn more calories than walking on a flat surface of the treadmill. With the incline treadmill people can enhance their total body sculpting as never before.

Objectives of fat loss, burn calories and better heart health can be achieved using the incline angle of the treadmill. Incline treadmill workouts can be done while watching TV and there is no need to go outdoors for walking. People can get a healthy cardio workout with walking at a brisk pace on a treadmill and then increase the incline with no side effects. This will reduce lower back injury problems and knee problems incurred while running or walking on outdoor concrete.

Adjustable resistance cardio cables during exercise increases the calorie burning potential by providing total upper-body resistance workout as people walk or run on the incline treadmill. Treadmill at an inclined angle operates smoothly with no effects or problems and enables individual to walk or run on it and achieve workout results.

Treadmill stress starts with individuals walking on a treadmill at an easy walking pace and then increasing the incline angle after every few minutes. This makes the individual do more work and is similar to walking up a gradual inclined hill.

With increase in the treadmill incline, larger steps are compensated by leaning forward from the waist which puts the center of gravity forward more and increases the use of muscles to maintain the forward lean of the upper torso. This burns more calories and provides a good workout. Beginners on a treadmill are advised to initially walk on the flat surface of the treadmill and over time they can increase the speed and incline several times higher than what they began with on the treadmill.

Workouts over the incline treadmill all the time can generate negative effects on ankles and tendons. People should avoid and restrict themselves to 10% inclination on the treadmill. People should take care that they don’t overdo themselves while using the treadmill at incline angle and stress themselves. People should stop the workout on the incline treadmill if the speed and the incline start causing problems to shins, calves or even heart.

Incline treadmill is an effective and ideal solution to lose fat, burn calories and achieve body sculpting results. However, individuals should take care so as to avoid over stressing or over working on the inclined treadmill which may create problems for them.
